Our Policy

MISSION: Infection prevention is our Top Priority, Forsyth Street Surgery Center strives to reduce any possibility of infection BEFORE it can happen.

  • We follow the National Standard Guidelines for infection control and prevention, but go over and beyond these policies in areas we feel are Crucial to eliminating the threat of an infection.
  • We follow-up with every patient after surgery for signs of infection for AT LEAST 30 days. In very invasive surgical cases, we stay in contact with the patient for Over a Year after the surgery.
  • Infection Control and Prevention policies are Reviewed and Updated annually, in addition any time we receive a national bulletin regarding infection prevention or any issue is identified, we review and incorporate the bulletin into our Policies.
  • Forsyth Street Surgery Center employees a Certified infection control Specialist that is on the national APIC board to review and modify our infection control policies and procedures. (info: www.apic.org )
  • Our Surgery Center uses Limited Access to help prevent Infections. Only Trained and Authorized personnel are allowed in the Operating or Procedure rooms.
  • Infection Surveillance and Prevention is the best way to stop infection. Every area of our facility is routinely audited for signs of bacteria growth. Every area of our facility is also well-stocked with Germ-Killing wipes to stop the spread of bacteria.
  • On-going staff Education is very important! Monthly, we educate and train ALL staff on the latest infection control procedures and policies, we also address any issues we have identified. Throughout the year, Anytime a policy is updated, all relavant staff members are trained on the new procedures or policies.
  • All of our surgical equipment is monitored and checked by a Third Party Bio-Medical inspector, any equipment that is deemed unfit for surgery is decommissioned until it can be repaired or replaced, and then thoroughly tested.

  • Any Infection is escalated to the Quality Control Committee at our Surgical Center. This Committee, with the assistance of the physician investigates the root cause of the infection, and then immediately reviews All Policies and Procedures.
  • If there is ever a reason for any staff member to suspect that infection may occur (damaged equipment, bad policy, Other Staff, etc...) All Surgical cases are suspended until the problem can be investigated and resolved.
